Job summary

Wordsmith in Edinburgh is seeking an IT Security Engineer to own onboarding, access, devices and offboarding as a unified system. You will build tooling with Python, Bash or TypeScript and run hands-on with hardware in our Edinburgh office.

You will implement joiner workflows with Okta/Jamf, develop a Slack assistant and a hardware vending solution, and write IaC to enforce security baselines and SOC 2 readiness. This role emphasizes shipping internal IT as a product.

Qualifications

• You write real code and automate with APIs and scripts — Python, Bash or TypeScript.
• You think in systems: identity, access, data flows and lifecycle
• You're comfortable using AI coding agents to build and ship tooling fast
• You're happy working on-site in Edinburgh and hands-on with real hardware

Responsibilities

• Build onboarding, access, devices and offboarding as a connected system with tooling.
• Create a Slack assistant backed by coding agents to handle requests and route tasks.
• Develop a hardware vending machine for the Edinburgh office with automatic stock ordering.
• Write scripts and infrastructure as code to configure devices and enforce security baselines.
• Build an offboarding flow that revokes access and reclaims hardware
