Job summary

SiXworks in the United Kingdom is seeking a Platform Engineer to design, build, and deliver secure digital solutions for mission-critical operations, working with engineering, architecture, and delivery specialists to enable faster, safer decision-making.

You will shape CI/CD pipelines, automation tooling (Terraform, Ansible), and platform features, applying secure-by-design principles while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across teams in a fast-paced, security-focused environment.

We’re looking for a Platform Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges and wants their work to have real operational impact.

What You’ll Do

As a Platform Engineer, you’ll help design, build, and deliver secure digital solutions in highly secure environments. You’ll work alongside engineers, architects, and delivery specialists to develop technology that enables faster, safer decision-making for critical operations.

Your work may include:

Platform Engineering & Automation

• Design, build, and improve CI/CD pipelines to support secure, scalable, and efficient delivery.

• Develop and maintain automation tooling and Infrastructure‑as‑Code solutions (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).

• Champion automation initiatives to reduce manual effort and improve consistency across environments.

• Support the delivery, upgrade, and maintenance of core platforms, systems, and services.

Architecture, Design & Delivery

• Participate in the architecture and design of new deployments, services, and platform features.

• Create proof‑of‑concepts for new technologies and guide them through to production readiness.

• Produce high‑quality documentation, diagrams, and design artefacts.

Collaboration & Enablement

• Work closely with development, QA, operations, and support teams to ensure smooth integration and delivery.

• Provide guidance on platform usage, best practices, and DevOps principles.

• Mentor more junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Security & Compliance

• Apply secure‑by‑design principles throughout the platform lifecycle.

• Conduct vulnerability assessments and contribute to hardening activities.

• Ensure non‑functional requirements (security, scalability, maintainability) are met.

What We’re Looking For

We value people who take ownership, think critically, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team tackling complex challenges. You don’t need to tick every box, but we’re particularly interested in people with skills/experience in:

• Working in Agile or DevOps‑Oriented environments.

• Strong documentation skills (e.g., Confluence, Sharepoint).

• Strong collaboration skills

• Ability to learn new technologies quickly in a fast‑paced environment

• Linux and/or Windows administration.

• Scripting and development skills

• Ability to work under pressure

• CI/CD tooling (GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.).

• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, DSC, ARM templates).

• Containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Podman).

• Git workflows, repository management, and configuration‑as‑code practices.

• Scripting languages such as Bash, Python, PowerShell, or PHP.

Just as important are curiosity, strong problem solving ability, and the motivation to continuously improve how technology is designed and delivered.
