Job summary

Digital Waffle, a global media and content business, is seeking a Software Engineer to build the first dedicated agent platform. This build role focuses on production-ready LLM agents and tight integration with editorial and licensing workflows in a hybrid Birmingham setting.

You will own the end-to-end development of the agent platform, collaborating with editorial, rights and commercial teams, delivering measurable outputs, and balancing build-versus-buy decisions to ship production-grade

Qualifications

• 3+ years commercial software engineering experience with strong TypeScript skills.
• Ideally background in PHP.
• Experience with Claude Code, Cursor or Codex.
• Built and shipped at least one LLM-powered feature or agent into production.
• Practical grasp of function and tool calling, RAG, vector databases, structured output, prompt engineering and context management.
• Comfortable with at least one agent framework or SDK and the why behind abstractions.
• Solid API and integration experience for plumbing agents into existing systems.
• Able to communicate effectively with non-technical colleagues about agent capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship production LLM agents against real editorial, rights, archive and commercial workflows.
• Build the shared platform underneath the agents including orchestration, tool and API integrations, retrieval, prompt management and observability.
• Integrate agents with the archive, submission portal, clips platform and internal editorial tooling.
• Collaborate with editorial, research and commercial teams to identify workflows to automate.
• Define what 'good enough to trust' looks like for each workflow.
• Develop evaluation and guardrails and ensure human review points.
• Own cost and latency, keeping model spend proportional to work replaced.
• Document and hand over so the platform isn't a single-person dependency.
