Job summary

Finova is seeking a Platform Engineer in Manchester, on a hybrid schedule with three days in the office. You will bridge cloud infrastructure and software delivery, scaling a multi-cloud ecosystem using Terraform across Azure, AWS and GCP, and streamline CI/CD via Buildkite and GitHub Actions.

• Proven track record running production workloads in Microsoft Azure (essential) with multi-cloud experience.
• Deep proficiency with Terraform to manage multi-environment infrastructure.

Responsibilities

About the Role

As a Platform Engineer based in our Manchester office, you will sit within our core Engineering team as a vital bridge between underlying cloud infrastructure and software delivery. Reporting into engineering leadership, you will play a hands‑on role in scaling and maintaining Finova’s multi‑cloud ecosystem across Azure, AWS, and GCP using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform). Your core purpose is to streamline CI/CD delivery pipelines in Buildkite and GitHub Actions, integrate shift‑left security practices, and build self‑service tooling that empowers our development squads to own and deploy their services autonomously. By driving platform resilience, observability, and cost efficiency, your work directly underpins a cloud‑native platform that processes over £50 billion in loans annually for the UK’s leading financial institutions.

About you

• Primary & Multi-Cloud Expertise: Proven track record running and scaling production workloads in Microsoft Azure (essential), along with multi-cloud experience in GCP and/or AWS (highly desirable).
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep proficiency and hands‑on experience using Terraform to manage complex, multi‑environment infrastructure safely and consistently.
• CI/CD Automation: Demonstration of pipeline mastery using Buildkite and GitHub Actions to automate software delivery, reduce lead times, and embed automated quality gates.
• Security & Compliance Mindset: Practical experience implementing security-first engineering—such as Identity Access Management (IAM), Secrets Management, encryption, and automated compliance-as-code—within a highly regulated Fintech or Financial Services environment.
• Developer Experience (DevEx) & Ownership: Proven ability to build self‑service tooling, internal developer platforms, and documentation that remove operational bottlenecks and drive a "you build it, you run it" engineering culture.
• Operational Excellence & Optimization: Experience managing system latency, resilience, observability, and cloud cost control (including resource tagging and footprint optimization) to ensure efficient scalability.
• Problem-Solving & Communication: Strong technical problem-solving capabilities combined with clear communication skills to articulate complex infrastructure concepts and collaborate effectively with wider software engineering teams.

What will you be doing

• Multi-Cloud Orchestration: Design, scale, and maintain robust infrastructure across Azure (primary), AWS, and GCP using Terraform to ensure high availability, environment consistency, and seamless performance.
• CI/CD Pipeline Evolution: Own and modernize automated deployment workflows in Buildkite and GitHub Actions, significantly cutting lead times for software releases while embedding strict automated quality gates.
• Security-First Engineering: Proactively harden Finova’s cloud ecosystem by embedding automated security scanning, Identity Access Management (IAM), secret management, and compliance-as-code into every stage of the delivery pipeline.
• Developer Experience & Self-Service: Build intuitive internal self‑service tooling, standard templates, and clear documentation that remove deployment bottlenecks and cultivate a true "you build it, you run it" culture among engineering squads.
• Next-Gen Architecture & Resilience: Move beyond routine maintenance to research and architect the future state of Finova’s platform, driving initiatives focused on deep observability, system fault tolerance, and high-volume scalability.
• Cloud Cost Optimization: Champion operational excellence by implementing resource tagging, monitoring usage patterns, and refactoring infrastructure to keep Finova’s multi-cloud footprint lean and cost-efficient as transaction volumes expand.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with software developers, security champions, and engineering leads to troubleshoot complex performance or architectural issues and translate infrastructure strategies into actionable guidance.
