Job summary

Marex is seeking a Platform Engineer to help build a secure, scalable cloud platform. You will partner with development and operations to automate and accelerate software delivery across cloud and on‑prem environments.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with CI/CD, IaC (Terraform or similar), and scripting in Python or PowerShell, plus familiarity with AWS or Azure. You will mentor juniors and contribute to security‑conscious design and governance.

Software development and support teams work in agile 'streams' aligned to specific business areas. The Platform Engineering function strives to automate infrastructure management and provide Marex technology teams with self‑service tools and workflows with the aim to streamline software delivery and accelerate the pace of innovation.

Role Summary

As a Platform Engineer you will help the team creating a platform where building, testing, and releasing of software can happen rapidly, frequently and reliably. You will be a DevOps advocate working closely with development and operations teams improving the collaboration whilst removing any impediments through automation, improved tooling, or processes. You will play a key role in a multi-disciplinary team building and operating a new security conscious cloud environment.

We are seeking an engineer with a passion for automation and scripting to enhance and streamline our operations and engineering practices. The ideal candidate will leverage one or more scripting languages, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform to automate our configurations, monitoring and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

Role specific:

• Build and operate a platform used by development and operations teams to provision their infrastructure and run their applications in the cloud and on‑premises. Perform weekend work as necessary to carry out maintenance, participate in on‑call duties and respond to support escalations to ensure the operational health of the platform. Support any teams using the platform as required.
• Deliver a continuous integration and deployment platform that integrates seamlessly with the development tools already in use and ensure its effectiveness to delivery software rapidly.
• Improve the developer experience, facilitate developers in building cloud infrastructure and deploying their applications free of impediments.
• Develop policies, standards, and guidelines for IAC and CI/CD that teams can follow.
• Propose and implement workflow and toolchain improvements to automate repetitive tasks.
• Ensure security and governance are considered a priority by applying security practices as part of the SDLC and developing and enforcing policies.
• Collaborate with teams on architectural design and cloud best practices.
• DevOps advocate to educate and promote DevOps practices across technology.
• Stay abreast of Cloud and DevOps industry best practices and tooling.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers in the team to deliver platform objectives

• Proven experience in working closely with development and operations teams throughout the SDLC, implemented CI/CD effectively and deployed into Cloud environments with IAC (Terraform or other similar tools).
• Considerable experience in deploying and running applications securely in AWS or Azure, familiarity with cloud native tooling and cloud security best practices.
• Built and operated containerized workloads and used serverless technology.
• Proficiency in scripting with programming languages Python orPowerShell.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:

• Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Puppet or Ansible.
• Monitoring in the cloud using tools such as CloudWatch, Splunk, DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana.
• Broad technical knowledge with a background in Linux Engineering or Development/Automation.
• Worked in a fast‑moving Agile environment using Scrum or Kanban.
