Job description

About Us

Ticket Tailor is committed to empowering a diverse range of event creators through simple and affordable ticketing. But that's not all, we're also on a mission to make sure that every single ticket sold has a positive impact on all stakeholders, our team, our planet and the communities we operate in. We call this "Growth on Purpose" and are proud to be a Certified B Corp, officially putting business for good at the centre of everything we do.

Last year, over 10 million orders were placed through the Ticket Tailor platform, for all types of events from art installations to water parks. We have a world-class NPS score, and pride ourselves in building a simple platform built with a customer-first mindset.

We're a fully independent, profitable, and bootstrapped company meaning we don't have to answer to anyone except ourselves and our customers, allowing us to scale the company sustainably and with soul. We work hybrid-remote and do two days per week in office, in our lovely space in Hackney.

About The Role

We're growing our Platform team, and hiring a full-time Platform Engineer to be our third member. It's a real mix of work: one day you will be building a system to protect our servers from high traffic influxes, reworking a Terraform module the next, then adopting a new self-hosted tool that unlocks teams. You'll own the infrastructure everything else runs on, taking real ownership of how it comes together.

The impact you have on the people around you is what will motivate you, and the problem will interest you as much as the tools you solve it with. You'll work alongside two other Platform Engineers and close to the product engineers, pairing, reviewing, unblocking, and shaping the platform together. Like the rest of engineering, we lean on tools like Claude to move faster because it changes what three people can realistically own.

Everything you deliver is yours end to end, from spotting the problem worth solving to running it in production. As part of a small team you'll have a real say in the technology decisions and share in the successes with the whole company.

What you’ll do
  • Design, build and maintain our infrastructure, from MySQL and Aurora through to ECS and Cloudflare, managed as code in Terraform.
  • Bring ideas for tooling and improvements that would have real impact, then take ownership of building them once we agree they're worth it.
  • Support reliability and observability, using Datadog to make sure we find out about problems before our customers do.
  • Take part in the operational work: migrations, upgrades, incident response and troubleshooting production issues, staying calm and methodical when it matters.
  • Use AI tools creatively and fluently to amplify your impact, reaching for new tools and ways of working rather than defaulting to how things have always been done.
  • Bring judgement on infrastructure design that others can lean on, keeping things simple rather than reaching for complexity we'd have to live with.
What we’re looking for
Essential
  • A deep understanding of AWS, evidenced by owning production infrastructure across multiple services (EC2 | ECS | RDS | Lambda | VPC | SQS).
  • Infrastructure as code as your default, with experience maintaining a Terraform estate.
  • Real depth with relational databases: schema migrations, failovers, upgrades and performance work.
  • Experience with containerisation in production.
  • A genuine drive to work in an AI-native way - you're curious and happy to change how you work as the tools evolve. This is core to how our team operates.
  • Experience using AI and agentic tools to amplify your impact, with a view on the risks when agents reach production.
  • Strong system design skills - you can tell when a problem needs solving properly versus quickly.
Desirable
  • Awareness of PCI DSS and what building to that standard demands is a plus.
  • Experience with Cloudflare or a similar edge platform (DNS | WAF | Cache | Workers).
  • Experience building PHP applications is desirable but not essential. PHP is our primary stack, with tooling in Python and Node, so familiarity with either of those is useful. Strong engineers from any modern language will be considered.
How you work
  • Keep it simple. You don't overcomplicate, you reason from first principles, and you know when to be pragmatic and when to polish. You’re ambitious to take long-term ownership of the payments product, building a sustainable, extendable, maintainable codebase.
  • Focused on impact. You have a deep care and empty for event organisers and you're excited to watch adoption and revenue grow, using signals to iterate and improve. You’re security minded and you build with care and awareness so things can’t be exploited.
  • Driven by feedback. You have a growth mindset and see feedback as a tool for getting better.
  • Human after all. You're happiest when working as part of a team. You thrive in working in kind, collaborative spaces where you can be vulnerable and transparent.

At Ticket Tailor, we’re passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive environment where people can thrive, be inspired, and feel comfortable to be themselves.

As a Certified B Corp, we lead from the front, and with purpose, to disrupt the ticketing industry while ensuring we accommodate and celebrate people of all backgrounds along the way.

We believe that diverse teams enable us to have different perspectives and points of view, making us even stronger in achieving our goals. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply and join us on our mission.

Level of role

We’re open to hiring at either mid or senior level, depending on your experience and the scope of responsibility you’ve held. The upper end of our salary range (£75,000+) is intended for candidates joining us at Senior level.

At either level, you’ll have a real say in the technical and product decisions we make. For a Senior level position we would expect strong experience and evidence in shaping solutions and contributing to key development decisions, such as choosing a direction while the requirements were still moving, bringing engineers and the business with you, and staying close enough to the solution to understand whether those decisions worked in practice.

Our Tools

PHP is our primary language, and we use Laminas and Mezzio frameworks

AI is woven into how we work, using Claude Code and agentic development workflows

OpenTofu / Terraform for infrastructure definitions

Open Policy Agent for policy as code

Linear for project management, Notion for docs

AWS for servers, databases and storage

Cloudflare for CDN, queueing and workers

Github and Github Actions for source control and CI

Incident.io for incident management

Datadog for logging, monitoring and metrics

The Process

If your application is shortlisted, then you will receive detailed information about the next stages of the process.

As an outline, the process will include:

  • An initial discovery call to learn more about you, your motivation, suitability for the position and to clarify any questions you have (30 minutes)
  • A technical test for you to complete in your own time (up to 2 hours) followed by a review and technical interview with the Hiring Manager (1 hour)
  • An on-site interview with wider team members focused on system design, ways of working and values alignment

We’ll review applications as they’re received and invite suitable candidates to an initial conversation on a rolling basis.

A note on using AI in your application

You’re welcome to use AI to help structure, refine or proofread your answers. However, your responses should accurately reflect your own skills, experience and achievements.

If you’re shortlisted, you should be prepared to discuss and expand on your responses during the interview.

Bear in mind that hiring teams read a large number of applications. Responses that rely heavily on AI can sometimes feel generic, so taking the time to make your application personal and specific will help it stand out.
