Qualifications

  • Azure DevOps experience is essential, with CI/CD focus.
  • Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools is desirable.

  • Proficient in Windows or Linux administration.
  • Scripting skills, particularly in PowerShell or similar languages, are essential.

Job Title: Platform Engineer

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Edinburgh OR Alderley Park

Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based

We are looking for a Platform Engineer to manage and improve our Azure DevOps CI/CD Platform. The team manages Azure DevOps Services and Server for Development Teams releasing to on-premises and Cloud (Azure) infrastructure, managing day-to-day operations, ensuring the platform remains secure and compliant, supporting teams through service request and incident processes, and providing enabling services and engineering accelerators.

The Platform engineer applies DevOps principles and practices to the management of the platform.

About the role
  • Help manage Royal London's Azure DevOps Platform ensuring it remains secure.
  • Support teams to develop and deploy their solutions as required, including enablement assignments working directly with Product Teams to develop, enhance or maintain their CI/CD Pipelines and Agent Images.
  • Design and deliver engineering accelerators required by Product Teams to maintain their Application Lifecycle Management.
  • Develop automation for all aspects of platform service management including patching, upgrades and changes.
  • Applying DevOps principles and tools, exploiting cloud, container, and infrastructure-as-code capabilities to help improve the automated provision, test, and operation of the platform technologies and services in your area.
  • Contributes to the ongoing development and maturity of continuous deployment and continuous delivery services (CI/CD), implementing and improving pipelines, managing complexity, and ensuring integrity, security, and reliability of pipeline services.
  • Contribute to the ongoing maintenance and management of knowledge information, technical communities, documentation, and standards.
  • Create reusable modules, which are scalable and easily maintainable for multiple development teams and multiple environments. Ensuring best practice is considered and implemented.
  • Identifies risks and issues; champions effective and timely resolution with thorough Root Cause Analysis performed and impacts fully understood.
  • Integrate platforms with operational and configuration automation tooling and pipelines to continuously improve service reliability, security, and management.
About you
  • Azure DevOps using Git, CI/CD is a must. Other pipeline and CI/CD tooling experience are desirable but not necessary.
  • Terraform experience or other infrastructure as code tools that align to the platform are desirable.
  • Azure Cloud experience is essential. Other cloud experience (e.g. AWS) is accepted.
  • Strong Windows experience or strong Linux experience.
  • Package Management experience.
  • PowerShell or other scripting experience is essential.
  • Desirable skills include Azure SQL server, Microsoft .NET, Python.
