Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Surgical Registered Nurse for the Plastic Surgery Ward and Assessment Unit. The post is part-time, with day or night shifts, working alongside Plastic Surgeons and nursing teams in Gate 28 & 28c.

You will deliver patient-centred care from pre-op to discharge, supervise junior staff, and contribute to a MDT approach in a busy surgical environment within the Trust.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with the NMC or on an NMC approved programme due to register within 12 months.
  • Professional, clinical knowledge gained through degree-level training.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current nursing issues, research and practice.
  • Ability to plan, assess, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Prioritise tasks and work well in a Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Delegate and co-ordinate patient care; supervise learners in practice.
  • Dexterity for clinical skills including cannulation, venepuncture and catheters.
  • Administer medicines using various routes; IT skills to use hospital systems.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time post for an Experienced Surgical Registered Nurse within the Plastic Surgery Department Gate 28 & 28c. You will be working alongside Plastic Surgeons and other Nursing staff in the Plastic Surgery Ward and the Plastic Surgery Assessment Unit.

You will take charge of the department on either days or nights.

Main duties

You will work 11.5 hour shifts directly looking after patients on the Ward or Assessment Unit.

You will work to support the Nursing Associates and Clinical Support Workers within your team.

You will be responsible for the assessment, evaluation and implementation of all aspects of patient centred care using current evidence based practice including: Medicine administration, pre, peri & post op care of patients, simple and complex dressings and discharge planning. You will also assist in our on unit major treatment room in which our Surgeons carry out local anaesthetic procedures.

  • IT skills which can be built upon to incorporate the use of hospital administration, information and training systems.
