Job description
Plaster Room Technician

The closing date is 23 November 2025.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Plaster Room Technician working within the Outpatients Fracture Clinic, based at Colchester General Hospital.

You will undertake in‑house supervised practice following attendance at RNOH Stanmore to complete the registered casting course and qualify as an Orthopaedic Technician (BCC).

Providing technical and professional support within clinical areas, wards, theatres and Emergency Department. Ensuring effective development of the casting/orthotics service within the Musculoskeletal CDG. Band 3–4 Development Role may be considered for the right applicant.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist with the efficient daily management of activity within the Plaster Room of the Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic.
  • Undertake self‑directed learning.
  • Actively take direction within the trainee role.
  • Understand limitations of responsibility and right to act during the training period.
  • Assist in general clinic duties where indicated.

Experience
  • Recently worked within a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of nursing Trauma and Orthopaedic patients.
  • Participation in audit.
  • Proven acute experience within the plaster room setting.
  • Experience of acute setting.
Qualifications
  • Possesses or awaiting results for British Casting Course Certificate (BCC).
  • BCC Code of Conduct.
  • Willingness to undertake further education.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of evidence based practice.
  • A & P knowledge to undertake appropriate casting skills to ensure safe patient pathway.
  • Evidence of wound care.
  • IT literate.
  • Nursing care of acute trauma and orthopaedic patients.
