Job summary

A local recruitment agency is seeking a plant operator and team leader to manage park maintenance duties in Northern Ireland. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in operating tractors over 45 hp and valid driving certifications. Responsibilities include driving allocated vehicles, maintaining parks, and supervising staff. This is a temporary position with an hourly rate of £14.52.

Qualifications

Job description

Working in all weather conditions, the postholder will act as a plant operator and also as a work team leader for staff whose responsibility include the maintenance of the full range of the Councils parks, gardens, pitches and open spaces.

Responsibilities

• Drive and be responsible for allocated vehicles and attachments. Duties will includevehicle/equipment checks, required routine maintenance (for example oil and waterchecks) and cleaning and transportation of goods equipment.
• Undertake work in public parks, playing fields, landscaped areas and similar open spaces, i.e. general maintenance of these areas.
• Patrol and attendance activities eg. Collection and issuing of tickets and maintenance of orderly conduct by the public.
• Horticultural operations e.g. planting, pruning and seeding, grounds maintenance e.g.basic setting out and marking of sports areas and where appropriate chemical controlunder direction.
• Assistance to squads and teams with skilled tasks e.g. assistance with propagation and nursery care of plants, site preparation and construction.
• Operate powered hand tools and light plant machinery, including the operation oftractor-mounted equipment, including 5 gang mowers, spikes, land levellers andmechanical diggers.
• Undertake activities largely utilising craft skills e.g. interpretation of plans, sitepreparation and construction, soft and hard landscaping and setting out of pitches, treecare and propagation.
• Work with minimum supervision and be responsible for the direction of the work oftrainers and/or other employees assigned to them.
• Liaise with the Pitch Attendants in regard to playing surface conditions and pitchavailability for bookings.
• Attend the Court of Law to defend the Councils actions, as and when required.

Skills and Qualifications

• Hold a valid C1 plus E driving licence entitlement
• At least 3 years’ experience in operation of tractors over 45 hp.
• At least 3 year’s experience in operation and use of a wide range of tractor implements commonly used in commercial horticultural and/or amenity horticulture.
• Valid CPC.
• Full UK Driving licence.
