Title: Plant Operator

Location: Croydon (South London)

Shifts: Earlies & Lates Shifts, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week)

Salary & Package: Circa £40,000 per annum (Inclusive of shift allowance) + Annual Bonus Scheme + Enhanced Benefits Package + Contributory Pension Scheme!

We are seeking a competent and safety‑focused shift operative to join the operations team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in a heavy‑duty, industrial environment such as production, manufacturing, renewable energy, waste disposal, power station, or similar environment.

The successful candidate will be a vital part of the operations team, predominantly responsible for the fuel reception at the ERF and other plant areas.

Core Responsibilities

• Operating heavy plant and machinery, including Overhead Cranes, Loading Shovels, Forklift Trucks (FLT), and other mobile plant in accordance with ERF procedures and safety standards.
• Managing waste safely and efficiently, including bunker management out of hours and during off‑peak times.
• Controlling traffic movements and ensuring compliance in the tipping hall area.
• Assisting with front‑line maintenance, plant checks, and shutdown activities to minimise plant downtime.
• Carrying out frequent risk assessments and identifying / containing possible hazards before they occur.
• Documenting all observations correctly in line with the company's Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System.
• Complying with all PPE requirements including COSHH chemical handling.

Requirements

• Experience in the operation of mobile plant within an industrial site (e.g., Waste Industry, Process / Power Plant).
• Lifting / Slinging, plant, or FLT certification (e.g., Loading Shovel, 360 Grab, Forklift Truck Licence).
• Experience with safe systems of work, permits for Work, risk assessments, and associated safety documentation.
• Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
• Basic mechanical, electrical, engineering, or Operational qualification is desirable.
