Southern Cement is a fully owned subsidiary of Irish Cement Limited and CRH plc. Irish Cement Ltd. has manufactured cement in Ireland for over 85 years and has been importing to the United Kingdom through a network of Cement Terminals since 2010. Southern Cement consists of two terminals, located in Ipswich and Shoreham serving a market covering East Anglia, The Greater London Area and the South Coast.

Southern Cement is seeking applications for the position of a plant maintenance engineer. The successful candidate will require at least 3 years’ experience in a mechanical and/ or electrical field. The position is fulltime and based at our Ipswich terminal and reporting to the Assistant Operations Manager.

The key responsibilities of the position are:
  • To ensure safe working practices are followed and that all safety regulations are complied with.
  • To undertake mechanical maintenance work, diagnose mechanical defects and perform breakdown repairs.
  • Carry out routine planned preventative maintenance tasks.
  • To plan mechanical maintenance work daily in consultation with the assistant operations manager.
  • To assist in documenting the completion of maintenance works with the assistant operations manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • To supervise additional contractors working on site.
  • To engage in the planning and execution of plant improvements.

The above list is not exhaustive. The successful candidate will be expected to perform duties as necessitated by the changing role and the overall business objectives of the Company, as directed.

Candidates must possess:
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills as evidenced by previous work experience.
  • Good knowledge of hydraulic and Pneumatic systems
  • NVQ/City & Guilds qualification or similar.
  • Evidence of previous success in a mechanical or electrical role with at least 3 years’ experience.
  • A drivers license
