Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a proactive Planning Admin Assistant to provide essential technical and administrative support across Planning Policy, Development Management, SN&N, and Planning Enforcement.

You will handle data entry, respond to feedback, support fee calculations, and assist with site visits across the Council area, contributing to efficient planning processes and excellent customer service.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at level 4/C or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of planning processes and policy documents.
  • Ability to interpret maps, GIS data and architectural drawings.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good communication and organisational ability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide system training and support for the team.

About the role

You’ll play a key role across our Planning Service, delivering essential technical and administrative support to Planning Policy, Development Management, Street Naming and Numbering, and Planning Enforcement

What will you be doing?

The purpose of the post is to provide technical administrative support to the department.

Duties will include:

  • Administer shared mailboxes
  • To provide response to complaints and feedback
  • To support the regular entry and maintenance of data into, and the collation of data from databases and mapping systems
  • Ensure timely registration, validation and processing of planning applications and planning related submissions
  • Provide support with systems and training on system
  • Calculating planning fees processing and recording payments
  • Printing, collating and distribution of communications during public consultation programmes
  • Organise venues and support in practical arrangements for meetings , events and external exhibitions
  • Processing and making recommendations to support the discharge the Council's statutory responsibilities with regard to street naming and numbering (SN&N)
About you

For this role you will need:

  • Educated to GCSE Standard Grade C/ level 4 or above Maths and English (or equivalent) or equivalent experience to demonstrate the same level of numeracy and literacy skills.
  • A basic knowledge of planning process and an ability to understand policy documents, plans, maps (including GIS) and architectural drawings and administrative processes
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise workload and operate under own initiative.
  • Demonstrate evidence of use of numerical and literacy skills.
  • Good communication and organisation
  • Able to deliver excellent customer service and work under pressure
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required independently to multiple sites across the Council’s administrative area to undertake site visits, or further away to attend meetings and events on behalf of the Council. For example, the ability drive with access to own transport.
  • The ability to carry out site visits or investigations on a variety of outdoor locations including domestic properties, overgrown land, and building sites. Must be able to use ladders and scaffolding and be able to walk across sites with uneven ground conditions.
