Base Location: Reading or Perth

Salary: £69,105 - £81,406 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable individual to join our Planning Policy & Technical Development team.

The team sits at the heart of System Planning (DSO), and covers the while range of representing planning policy and industry standards externally to disseminating them internally within SSEN.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to have true impact on DNO industry policy, codes and standards development at a time of significant change and carry through with their application; development of technical guidance, technical training, and down to automation modifications/steering.

You will
  • Deliver on Technical planning policy and standards.
  • Represent SSEN in ENA & Strategic Connections working groups.
  • Deliver technical training.
  • Deliver automation of system planning studies/steering of modifications.
  • Support across DSO on technical matters impacting System Planning.
You have
  • An Engineering background, with relevant professional qualifications as well as experience of electricity distribution and specialisation in electricity systems, grid codes and procedures.
  • Understanding of statutory, regulatory & license requirements, industry wide codes, network and engineering standards and recommendations. (e.g. DistrGrid code, P2, G5/5, G74, G99).
  • Strong capability of carrying out technical studies – including power flow analysis, fault level studies, voltage and thermal capability, harmonic and power quality analysis (scripting capability is a plus).
  • Ability to speak/present on a range of technical subjects and represent DSO across industry forums.
  • Strong interest in coaching others and developing new skills and capabilities.
