Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Planning Strategy Manager (Local Plans Manager) for the Greater Manchester area. We offer hybrid working with 37 hours per week on a 6-month initial contract. The role focuses on supporting a busy local authority planning policy team during a period of high demand.

Key requirements include a strong Local Plan Examination background and prior management experience, ideally 2+ years, plus Local Authority exposure. Salary £65-£80 per hour, with extension potential.

We are looking for an experienced Planning Policy specialist to provide additional management support to a busy Local Authority Planning Policy Team during a particularly intensive period of work.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a high-performing and well-established team, helping to maintain delivery standards during a period of significant demand. You will need to be a supportive and hands-on manager who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves and providing practical support to the team.

A strong background in Local Plan Examination is essential. You will need previous experience of either leading or coordinating a Local Plan Examination, including appearing at examination hearings and providing evidence to an Inspector.

You will also need previous management experience, ideally with 2+ years of managing and supporting planning professionals.
