Job summary

Dover District Council is seeking an experienced Planning Policy Team Leader on an 18-month fixed term contract. The role leads a professional policy and projects team, advising on planning policy and development management decisions, with expert witness duties at examinations in public and other hearings.

Hybrid working from Whitfield, Kent, is available. Applicants should have established policy planning experience, strong writing and analytical skills, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Experienced planner with strong knowledge of planning policy and local government procedures.
• Ability to lead a team of planning professionals and manage external consultants.
• Excellent report writing, research and analysis skills.
• Full driving licence with access to a vehicle for business use.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning policy and projects team to implement local policies following the Local Plan.
• Provide professional advice on planning policy and respond to planning applications.
• Appear as expert witness at examinations in public and other hearings as required.
• Manage staff, resources and delivery of infrastructure funding statements and S106 obligations.
