Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Planning Manager to join our client on a contract basis. The role covers leadership of the minerals and waste Local Plan, development management, and proactive stakeholder engagement in a flexible hybrid working environment.

The contract is a 6-month rolling arrangement with a flexible rate. You will lead the planning team, oversee budgets and work programmes, prepare and present reports to committees, defend the council's position at appeals and hearings, and deliver a

  • Lead the preparation, implementation, monitoring and review of the Minerals and Waste Local Plan.
  • Manage all aspects of development management, including planning applications, appeals, enforcement, site monitoring and pre-application advice.
  • Deliver a high-quality, customer-focused planning service through effective stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • Lead, manage and develop the planning team, including performance management, workload allocation, training and mentoring.
  • Oversee team budgets, resources, projects and work programmes to ensure delivery within agreed timescales and financial targets.
  • Prepare and present reports, recommendations and professional advice to committees, decision-makers and other stakeholders.
  • Represent and defend the Council's position at planning appeals, hearings, inquiries and court proceedings.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in planning legislation, policy and consultations, providing expert advice as required.
