Planning Planet seeks a skilled Planning Engineer to join a growing rail team on a permanent basis. The role focuses on developing, maintaining and analysing schedules across a portfolio of rail projects, ensuring programmes are robust and delivery-focused.

Hybrid working arrangement with occasional site/office travel across the South of England and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Planning Engineer within the rail sector.
• Strong working knowledge of planning tools (Primavera P6 preferred; MS Project also considered).
• Solid understanding of rail construction methodologies and project lifecycles.
• Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, update, and manage detailed project schedules for rail infrastructure works.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure accurate planning data.
• Monitor progress, identify variances, and support mitigation strategies.
• Produce clear planning reports, dashboards, and programme narratives.
• Support risk reviews, change management, and scenario modelling.
• Attend site visits and progress meetings as required.
• Ensure compliance with rail industry standards and internal governance processes.

A leading rail infrastructure organisation is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer to join its growing team on a permanent basis. You’ll be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analysing project schedules across a portfolio of rail projects, ensuring programmes are robust, realistic, and aligned with delivery objectives.
