Job summary

Tandridge District Council is seeking a Planning Enforcement Officer to investigate and resolve breaches of planning control. You will report to the Enforcement Manager and handle a caseload with initiative in a collaborative environment.

About the role

As a Planning Enforcement Officer, you will investigate and resolve breaches of planning control. This will draw on your investigative abilities to identify whether there has been any breaches. You will report to the Enforcement Manager who will be there to support and provide guidance to you as well as your enforcement colleagues. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative in dealing with your caseload. This is a crucial part of the Enforcement Team to uphold confidence in the planning system. There is a wide variety of cases to investigate so it is an excellent opportunity to start your career in planning enforcement or to develop it further.

Local Government Reorganisation

The government is reorganising local councils in Surrey. The current two-tier system where services are split between Surrey County Council and district or borough councils, will be replaced by two new unitary councils - East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council.

East Surrey Council will cover Elmbridge, Epsom & Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge District managing all local services, including housing, planning, waste, education, roads and social care.

Although this may lead to some uncertainty for anyone considering a role with us, we need to continue to provide services.

When the new councils are created in April 2027, most staff will transfer to the new council on their current terms and conditions. Being part of a larger organisation may offer additional opportunities for career development and variety.
