You don’t need previous planning experience. If you’ve worked in roles involving investigation, compliance, or public service such as policing, environmental protection, housing, or community safety you may already have the transferable skills we’re looking for. What matters most is your motivation, integrity, and willingness to learn.
We’ll provide tailored training and mentoring to help you build confidence in interpreting plans, writing reports, and applying planning legislation. You’ll need to be a team player with strong communication and negotiation skills, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to excellent customer service.
Working within a supportive and experienced team, you’ll help deliver an effective planning enforcement service by investigating complaints, monitoring development sites, and resolving breaches of planning control.
You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Council departments, liaise with elected members and external stakeholders, and contribute to protecting Rutland’s unique character.

Please note the successful candidate will require a full driving licence to travel around the county.
