Job summary

ASSYSTEM in the East Midlands is seeking a dynamic Project Planner to support project delivery within the Defence Infrastructure portfolio. You will be responsible for managing project schedules, coordinating work packages, and interacting with stakeholders to track progress.

Ideal candidates will have strong MS Office skills, experience with NEC4 Contracts, and preferably a degree or Project Management qualification. This role offers a flexible working model with 25 annual leave days and various health benefits.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a project planner on NEC4 Contracts is essential.
  • Major infrastructure design and build project background highly desirable.
  • Experience of working in the nuclear or defence industry highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning – production and management of project schedule(s).
  • Coordination of work packages to schedule, tracking progress vs schedule.
  • Review and approval of sub-contractor programmes.

Skills

Job Description

As the Assystem’s Defence Infrastructure account continues to grow, we are looking to recruit a dynamic, self‑motivated Project Planner to support project delivery.

Working alongside the Defence Infrastructure Project Manager(s) and PMO function, the Project Planner is the local point for all aspects of planning across the Defence Infrastructure portfolio.

This role will be based at our Assystem offices in either Derby or Newcastle, with ad‑hoc travel to client and other Assystem offices as required. Assystem are currently implementing our ‘new normal’ flexible working model, which will continue to support a mixture of home and office working across the business.

Your missions
  • Responsible for planning – production and management of project schedule(s), both internally and externally.
  • Coordination of work packages to schedule, tracking progress vs schedule, resource planning, coordination of sub‑contractors.
  • Review and approval of sub‑contractor programmes.
  • Interface with stakeholders to identify and report on progress, change, risks and opportunities.
  • Input to proposals relating to manhour estimates and planning.
  • Produce concise, accurate reports of project metrics including critical path analysis to the Defence Infrastructure Lead Team.

Qualifications
Essential skills and behaviours
  • Strong skills in MS Office, especially Excel and Project.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work to deadlines without direction or supervision.
  • Good communicator able to provide a clear, concise and accurate summary of project progress, risks to the critical path and metrics.
  • Confidently engage with sub‑contractors and critically review the accuracy of sub‑contractor submissions.
Qualifications
  • Degree preferred, or other equivalent qualification.
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., APM) would be beneficial.
Experience
  • Experience as a project planner on NEC4 Contracts is essential (particularly Option A and Option C).
  • Major infrastructure design and build project background highly desirable.
  • Experience of working in the nuclear or defence industry highly desirable.
