Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Huddersfield is seeking a placement student to join the Manufacturing Engineering team within the Value Package Introduction (VPI) group for a 12-month program. You will learn how a global leader operates, gaining tools to become an expert in the industry.

Qualifications

• Studying toward a Mechanical Engineering degree or similar.
• Self-motivated with excellent communication and willingness to learn.
• Experience with CREO/CAD or Minitab is beneficial but not essential.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Participate in New Product Launch Projects, supporting Manufacturing from concept through Start of Production.
• Use LEAN tools (including 5S) to drive continuous improvements in manufacturing processes.
• Plan, design, purchase and implement integrated manufacturing and assembly processes; manage multiple projects.
• Compile and present KPI data; chair meetings as needed.

PLACEMENT STUDENT – MANUFACTURING ENGINEER-VPI (12 months)

We are looking for an enthusiastic Manufacturing Engineering student to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Value Package Introduction (VPI) Engineering business in Huddersfield, United Kingdom. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

The requirements are to be onsite for 3 days per week so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer of 2027

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Participate in New Product Launch Projects, supporting the Manufacturing Function from Concept through to Start of Production
• Using LEAN tools (including 5S) and methodologies to drive continuous improvements across the Manufacturing process
• Planning, design, purchase and implementation of integrated manufacturing and assembly processes, managing different projects of varying sizes to successful conclusions
• Compiling and presenting data on Key Performance Indicators, chairing meetings to discuss required details
• Work as part of a team implementing process improvements within the Assembly & Machining Processes
• Participate in the design/layout of new and existing workstations to improve efficiency and accommodate new tooling and products
• Review/develop assembly workstation documentation including assembly graphics using CREO/CAD

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

• We are looking for a wide range of candidates studying towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Self-motivated with excellent communication skills, and a keen willingness to learn
• A good level of IT skills including the use of Microsoft applications, Minitab experience would also be beneficial although is not essential
• Experience with CREO/CAD would also be beneficial, although it is not essential
