A leading engineering firm is seeking a Piping Design Engineer to support field design activities in Bristol. The role involves gathering data, engaging with stakeholders, and producing technical assessments for piping design issues. The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, 20 days holiday, and a fixed-term contract lasting 24 months.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Piping Mechanical design, preferably in the nuclear industry.
  • Knowledge of piping design execution, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes including EUROCODE, ASME, and RCC-M.

Job description
Overview of the role

The position of Piping Design Engineer aims at supporting the field design activities for the piping discipline. It will lead to handle different interfaces with several disciplines and solve piping engineering topics raised during on-site installation of pipework and associated supports. The main tasks will be the following :

  • Gathering input data.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders (installation contractors CW interfaces other disciplines) to clarify issues.
  • Producing site request technical assessment (RFI FCR NCR) concerning design issues on piping support and anchorage scopes.
  • Contributing to other teams (Layout Transverse etc...) by providing piping assessments or general guidance as required.
  • Doing hand calculations and running anchorages macros to assess the feasibility of modification.
  • Proposing appropriate and proportionate modifications if sizing criteria are not met.
  • Closing open points and comments.
  • Assessing and integrating modification coming from the stakeholders after packages handed over to JDO.
  • Using calculation notes and guide drawings subcontracted to external companies.
  • Maintaining my Clients procedures in delivering the design.
  • Working with CAD designers / detailers in the preparation of the design drawings.

Contributing to the update of site design documentation such as tolerance notes or catalogue of standard solutions.

Qualifications
  • First experience of 3 years minimum in Piping Mechanical design nuclear industry or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of EUROCODE ASME and RCC-M code.
  • Knowledge of the piping sequence including detailed design execution design manufacturing installation and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D design software: if possible knowledge of these specific software: PDMS, NavisWorks, PIPESTRESS, RSTAB, ANSYS APDL and WORKBENCH.
  • Knowledge of piping and support calculation tools.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Curious autonomous rigorous and motivated to learn.
Additional Information
  • Fixed Term Contract – 24 months.
  • Location: Bristol with hybrid working – 3 days on site 2 days WFH.
  • Salary / rate will depend on experience.
