Job summary

An aviation training provider based in Portsmouth is seeking a Pipefitter Instructor to join their team. The role involves providing training on pipework fitting and brazing techniques, supporting trainee development, and maintaining training materials. Candidates must hold a Level 3 Technical Certificate in Engineering and have practical Coppersmith/Pipefitter skills. This full-time position offers a competitive salary of £39,000 - £41,000, with structured term-time work and holiday arrangements.

Job description

Our client is currently looking for a Pipefitter Instructor to join them on a permanent basis. As the Pipefitter Instructor you will provide support to the delivery of training across Coppersmith/Pipefitter skills area within Skill of Hand Training group.

Full Time - Monday to Friday 09:00-17:30

Salary

£39,000 - £41,000

Security Clearance

Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.

Responsibilities
  • Provide training on how to fit pipework on ships from a drawing (Fit from design)
  • Teach Brazing techniques
  • Maintain strong working relationships with customers and colleagues within the Marine Engineering Electrical training area.
  • Support trainee development through assessment, feedback, and personalised learning approaches.
  • Maintain and update training materials and contribute to modernising and improving training delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with KPIs, SLAs, and safety standards, while maintaining a CPD portfolio.
Essential Skills / Experience / Qualifications
  • Minimum Level 3 Technical Certificate in an Engineering discipline
  • Be proficient in the use of IT (hardware/software) within the workplace
  • Competent practical Coppersmith/Pipefitter hand skills
  • Proven experience in workshop/industry principles
Desirable Skills / Experience / Qualifications
  • Level 4 Teaching Qualification / DCTS Defence Train The Trainer Course or equivalent (successful completion)
  • Previous instructional experience in a military or civilian engineering environment
Contract

Term time basis, 45 weeks per year, with non‑working weeks taken 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter and 3 weeks in August. Salary pro‑rated and calculated to include contractual annual leave entitlement and bank holidays.
