Job summary

Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital is seeking a Physiotherapy Assistant to support the physiotherapy team in delivering patient care at Brentwood. The role is part-time with a 30-hour week and shifts from 7:30 to 15:30 on an alternating weekly pattern.

You will assist with patient rehabilitation, manage your own caseload delegated by the physiotherapist, and help with administrative tasks and infection control in a busy hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 Healthcare or The Care Certificate required.
  • Assist with rehabilitation and basic admin duties as part of physiotherapy support.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection prevention standards in the department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the qualified physiotherapist in the assessment and rehabilitation of patients.
  • Accept patients referred by a qualified physiotherapist and manage own patient caseload.
  • Assist with administrative duties: reception cover and diary management.
  • Keep accurate records of work in accordance with CSP and Physiotherapy Service standards.
  • Maintain stock equipment and report issues to the physiotherapist.
  • Participate in changes in service delivery to improve efficiency.
  • Aid in departmental cleanliness and infection prevention.

Brentwood Hospital | Permanent | Part -Time

Competitive salary available, depending on experience

30 hours per week

7.5 hour working days (7:30-15:30) on an alternating weekly shift pattern:

Week 1 - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Week 2 - Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday

The Physiotherapy Assistant role supports the qualified Physiotherapy staff, by carrying out specific patient activities in conjunction with the Physiotherapist, completing other healthcare tasks and basic administration duties.

As our Physiotherapy Assistant you will:

  • Assist the qualified physiotherapist in the assessment and rehabilitation of patients.
  • Accept patients referred by a qualified physiotherapist, and carry as own patient case load and manage and prioritise own patient case load delegated by the qualified physiotherapist
  • Assist with the administrative duties related to the running of a physiotherapy department, such as reception cover, TM2 diary management.
  • Keep accurate records of work undertaken in accordance with CSP and Physiotherapy Service standards for clinical documentation
  • Maintain levels of stock equipment, anticipate periods of higher use, and order stock e.g. mobility aids and aids for activities of daily living etc. To report any problems to the qualified physiotherapist.
  • Participate in changes in service delivery across the in-patient and outpatient areas in order to provide an efficient and effective physiotherapy service.
  • Aid the management of departmental cleanliness and infection prevention standards, in conjunction with hospital protocols and the house keeping team.

To succeed as a Physiotherapy Assistant, you will need:

  • Undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients
  • Have the knowledge in the available range of mobility aids, including equipment for bariatric patients, and to be able to accurately measure for patients, order, and instruct patients in their use.
  • Treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression, making minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required, and, ensuring the qualified physiotherapist is informed of any changes or problems.
  • Encourage patients and their careers in an active approach to regaining and maintaining personal independence. This requires empathy, sensitivity and good interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate effectively with other health care staff, patients and carers by using effective verbal and nonverbal communication. Including situations where there may be barriers or resistance to understanding.
  • Keep treatment areas safe and tidy. This includes; cleaning the physiotherapy equipment regularly and ensure that no damaged or problem equipment is used.
