Overview

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe with a national and international reputation for high quality patient care, research, development and education. As physiotherapists we are key members of a multidisciplinary team geared to the rehabilitation of patients undergoing surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in both in and outpatient settings.

Role and Rotation

Band 6 Physiotherapist, Permanent, 37.5 hours a week, Chelsea based. An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced physiotherapist to join the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust to cover a fixed term vacancy. The post holder will have the opportunity to join our band 6 rotations, gaining experience across inpatient and outpatient settings, working within different specialities which may include critical care, GI, urology, haematology, gynae-oncology, sarcoma, head and neck, breast, lung, palliative care, prehabilitation and rehabilitation. The successful candidate will also gain inpatient respiratory and post-operative physiotherapy experience in different clinical specialities through participation in the weekend and on call rota. We are looking for an enthusiastic physiotherapist with a special interest in the field of oncology to work as a part a multidisciplinary team. You will be supported by senior colleagues, with regular supervision and in-service training.

  • The Band 6 Physiotherapist is an active member of a team that provides a high quality; evidence based physiotherapy service for the patient with cancer.

Responsibilities and requirements
  • Provide a holistic, advanced, physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with a cancer diagnosis. These patients may present with complex physical, emotional and psychological needs as a result of their cancer diagnosis and its treatment with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
  • Provide a physiotherapeutic diagnosis, to develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes and make appropriate referrals to other disciplines.
  • Hold responsibility for a defined clinical area and own caseload, working without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available, clinical work is not routinely evaluated by senior staff. Supervision with a designated physiotherapist takes the form of formal training, reflective practice and clinical reasoning.
