Job Summary
We are looking for a Physiotherapist to join our Band 5 Physiotherapy Rotation. Rotations are predominantly in Barnsley, with an exciting new chance to work with the inpatient mental health team in Wakefield including forensic experience. This post provides the opportunity to develop across a wide range of services, including musculoskeletal outpatients (hydrotherapy and Escape Pain programme), neurology, mental health, learning disabilities, paediatrics, neighbourhood rehabilitation, respiratory and mobility clinics, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and more.
Key Result Areas
- Work as a Band 5 Physiotherapist within a specified service area or as part of a community rotation.
- Assess, treat and advise own caseload of patients with supervision from senior staff when necessary and formulate a clinical diagnosis and treatment plan as an autonomous practitioner.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of own work including patient management.
- Undertake clinical assessment and treatment of own caseload, formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan using clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques.
- Deliver individual physiotherapy treatment programmes based on evidence‑based practice (manual techniques, patient education, exercise classes & electrotherapy).
- Interpret and analyse clinical and non‑clinical information to form a diagnosis, prognosis, and recommend optimal intervention; develop comprehensive discharge plans supported by senior physiotherapy staff.
- Obtain valid informed consent and work within a legal framework with patients who may lack capacity.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team to progress rehabilitation.
- Provide advice, teaching and instruction to patients, relatives, carers and other health care professionals.
- Evaluate patient progress, re‑assess and amend treatment programmes as required to achieve efficient outcomes.
- Attend MDT meetings to ensure coordinated service delivery.
- Responsibly manage caseload risk assessment and ensure safe use of equipment.

- Keep up‑to‑date knowledge of evidence‑based practice in each rotational area.
- Maintain HCPC registration and participate in Trust and area‑specific appraisal.
- Participate in trust‑wide programmes (e.g., IST) and learning programmes appropriate to the service area and grade.
- Ensure accurate, legible and comprehensive treatment records and collect required data.
- Assist senior clinicians with supervision, training and induction of students, assistants and new staff as needed.

Qualifications and Experience
- BSc in Physiotherapy or equivalent GradDipPhys.
- HCPC Registration.
- Experience in core physiotherapy areas (musculoskeletal, respiratory & neurology) and within the service area.
- Evidence of CPD and continuing learning.
- Experience working in a therapy community setting, with elderly patients, and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Experience in risk assessment and safe use of specialist equipment.
- Good clinical reasoning, treatment skills, communication, organisational and record‑keeping skills.
- Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day.
- Desirable: MCSP member, involvement in audit/research/quality issues, audit experience, IT and presentation skills.
