Job summary

A 10-week Band 6 locum physiotherapy post, placed by Military Medical Personnel with the Ministry of Defence at Catterick Medical Centre. The work is independent assessment and treatment of a musculoskeletal caseload, referred by consultants and GPs, under supervision from a Band 7 clinical specialist or medical officer.

The role runs at 15.5 hours a week and involves working with service personnel within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration is required.
• Minimum two years post-graduate MSK experience.
• Post-graduate diploma level MSK/orthopaedics experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent assessment and management of an MSK caseload under supervision.
• Treat patients referred by consultants and GPs with complex, acute and chronic conditions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards of care.
• Develop individualized treatment programs based on evidence-based practice.
• Obtain informed consent and support rehabilitation, including for English as a second language.
• Write clinical reports with prognoses and discharge planning for medical professionals.

Job description

A 10-week Band 6 locum physiotherapy post, placed by Military Medical Personnel with the Ministry of Defence at Catterick Medical Centre. Applicants must already hold HCPC registration and MCSP membership, and visa sponsorship is not available.

What the job involves

• Provide independent assessment, treatment and management of an MSK caseload under supervision
• Manage patients referred by consultants, GPs and other healthcare professionals, including complex, acute and chronic conditions and sports injuries
• Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards of care
• Use clinical reasoning to reach an accurate diagnosis
• Develop individualised treatment programmes based on evidence-based practice and manual assessment
• Communicate with patients to obtain informed consent and support rehabilitation, including where English is a second language
• Communicate with rehabilitation and unit personnel and external medical staff
• Advise the medical officer and other rehab clinicians on specialist physiotherapy recommendations
• Write clinical reports with prognoses and discharge planning for medical professionals and the military chain of command
• Support audit and research activity
• Use equipment and patient aids safely and competently, and report servicing and repair needs
• Care for materials, equipment and inventories, and keep accurate patient and statistical records

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in physiotherapy
• Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP)

Experience

• Minimum two years post-graduate clinical experience in MSK disorders, evidenced in the CV
• Post-graduate diploma-level experience in MSK assessment and treatment, sports injuries, orthopaedics, mobilisation and manipulation
• Previously held a Specialist Physiotherapist Band 6 post or equivalent
