This is an exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapist committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care, supporting children and young people to achieve their maximum potential, live healthier, more independent lives and develop clinical skills in the NHS. The Paediatric Physiotherapy Team is co-located with a multidisciplinary Integrated Children's Service in Havering, Acorn Centre, working alongside Occupational Therapists, Paediatricians, Speech and Language Therapists and CAMHS.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery and continued development of Physiotherapy services in line with NELFTS Strategic priorities, including improving outcomes and experiences, and delivering care closer to home within the community where possible.

The postholder will work as an autonomous practitioner within the Paediatric community Physiotherapy Team, providing evidence-based physiotherapy assessment, intervention, and advice to children and young people with a range of developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, and Physical needs.

  • Deliver day-to-day service delivery, physiotherapy assessments, organising and prioritising own caseload, developing a high standard of physiotherapy assessment and treatment with support from senior colleagues.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support service delivery.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prioritisation of own caseload to develop physiotherapy assessment and treatment, with access to support from senior colleagues.
  • Delegate appropriately to Students and Therapy assistants.
  • Ensure effective risk management at team level by completing incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risks.
  • Complete accurate contemporaneous records as per Trust and HCPC guidelines.
  • Ensure equipment provided is safe and appropriate for patients and carers.
Leadership
  • Actively promote integrated health professional working internally and externally.
  • Facilitate a positive team culture by taking responsibility for addressing potential conflict.
  • Participate in the audit process, linking with the clinical governance agenda.
  • Active interest in working parties and groups within the Trust to develop and improve service delivery protocols and guidelines.
Clinical Skills
  • Act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the CSP professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.
  • The post holder will be registered with the HCPC. Professional knowledge may have been gained through accredited courses, workshops, study and Mandatory training programmes.
  • Be responsible and accountable for all aspects of delivering physiotherapy to clients/patients.
  • Develop skills to assess and develop care plans for a range of paediatric conditions, some of which may involve complex psycho social difficulties, with senior Physiotherapy advice available.
  • Develop the skills to assess, diagnose and develop individual care/treatment plans for a range of paediatric conditions, some of which will be highly complex or will be for clients with complex psycho-social difficulties, with advice and support from a senior physiotherapist
  • Practice to be supported by research, evidence-based practice, literature and peer review.
  • Provide patients and relatives with information and education, ensuring they have meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
  • To ensure practice is supported by research, evidence-based practice, literature, and peer reviews.
Communication
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, peers, senior managers and clinical leads of the Trust.
  • Have a wide range of communication skills to manage patient care.
Training
  • Assist with mentoring of students.
  • Ensure own continued professional development and support a culture of lifelong learning of self and others.
  • Undertake and assist in planning of own mandatory training and workshops.
  • Undertake regular appraisal, developing a personal development plan, including competencies reflecting local population health needs.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London

(B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, Goodmayes)

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).
