Job summary
Urenco is seeking a Physics Scientist to join our Capenhurst/Birchwood site within the Government Services function. You will provide scientific leadership, support complex design and process facilities, and apply advanced modelling and AI techniques to improve safety and performance across our operations.
The role requires a Master’s or PhD in a relevant field, strong analytical skills, and experience in design assurance and governance.

- Recognised specialist within a relevant scientific or technical discipline.
- Experience applying scientific methods, modelling, and analysis to engineering challenges.

Urenco is a global leader in the production of low-carbon energy, playing a critical role in delivering secure, reliable nuclear fuel solutions worldwide. We are focused on enabling the sustainable generation of electricity for customers around the world while operating to the highest environmental, social, and regulatory standards.
In addition, as part of a strategically important industry, Urenco is now required to support the UK Government in exploring options to re-establish nuclear fuel capabilities to produce reactor fuel for defence purposes.
To support this new project, we are seeking a Physics Scientist to join our Capenhurst/Birchwood site. In this role, you will work within our Government Services function as a key interface between site teams and Group stakeholders to ensure effective planning, coordination, and delivery across complex programmes.
You will provide scientific and technical expertise to support the development, verification, and assurance of advanced process technologies and facility designs. You will contribute to the design and analysis of complex process systems through scientific modelling, simulation, and computational analysis, ensuring solutions meet safety, performance, and operational requirements.
Acting as a delegated Design Authority within your area of expertise, you will support new technology development, provide governance and oversight throughout the asset lifecycle, and contribute to the advancement of innovative methodologies, digital solutions, and artificial intelligence applications across Urenco's operations.

- Provide scientific analysis and computational modelling to support design development and design assurance activities.

- Promote a proactive safety culture and learning-from-experience approach.
- Ensure plant designs incorporate appropriate safety features and industry best practice.
- Lead Post Implementation Reviews and support continuous improvement activities.
- Support safety case development and design substantiation through technical analysis.
- Carry out troubleshooting and debottlenecking investigations for operational facilities.
