Job summary

University of Bath is seeking a Physics Technician to join the Department’s technical team in Bath. The temporary role provides short-term technical support, with training and development opportunities to help you contribute effectively.

You will support teaching and research laboratories, maintaining and repairing electrical/electronic equipment, and constructing teaching apparatus. A hands-on problem-solving approach and electronics expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• A scientific or technical background is required; a degree in Electronics or Physics is advantageous but not essential.
• Strong hands-on electronics experience and ability to apply it in a laboratory or research environment.
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation or bespoke equipment is highly valuable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, fault-find, and repair electrical and electronic equipment in teaching and research labs.
• Develop and construct teaching laboratory equipment and experimental setups.
• Support undergraduate teaching in laboratories, helping students perform experiments safely.
• Provide bespoke electronics support to research labs, including circuit design to specifications; may involve LabVIEW.
• Contribute to software for instrumentation and support CAD/3D printing for teaching and research.
