Job summary

British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge is seeking a physical oceanographer on a fixed-term contract (20 months) to contribute to the SYNCHRONY project. You will run and analyse adjoint sensitivity experiments within an ocean state estimate, and evaluate air-sea flux products for heat and carbon.

You will manage code and data, publish findings, and engage with EU partners and conferences to advance a carbon and biogeochemical observation strategy.

Qualifications

  • PhD in ocean/climate dynamics or equivalent postgraduate experience.
  • Strong numerical ability to manipulate, analyse, and interpret ocean data.
  • Experience editing model code and running numerical models.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and analyse adjoint sensitivity experiments within an ocean state estimate.
  • Analyse and compare air-sea flux observational products for heat and carbon.
  • Manage code base and datasets produced by the above work.
  • Write, publish and communicate scientific findings and milestones.
  • Participate in Horizon Europe SYNCHRONY project meetings and collaborate with partners.
  • Collaborate with the Polar Oceans team and external researchers at conferences.
