Job responsibilities

We are looking for a Physical Health Nurse (RGN) with a passion for delivering outstanding care.

You will be working 15 hours a week (Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm) at Cygnet Hospital Harrow, our Acute Inpatient Mental Health and Autism service.

Cygnet Hospital Harrow provides a recovery focused service treating a wide range of mental health problems. We also offer specialist diagnostic, assessment and inpatient services for individuals with mental health needs and who also have a dual diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Our acute in-patient psychiatric services offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment for individuals with a wide range of psychological and emotional problems, including those who are detained under the Mental Health Act.

  • Closely monitor patient health issues such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, COPD, minor injuries and illnesses.
  • Carry out ECGs.
  • Carry out Metabolic Syndrome monitoring.
  • Co-ordinate with GP surgery for routine reviews: cervical smear screening, breast cancer screening, annual chronic health review, etc.
  • Liaise with relevant health professionals e.g. dietician, optician, chiropodist, continence nurse, dentist, Tissue viability nurse, Continence team, Community diabetes specialist team, etc.
  • Liaise with pharmacist and contribute to medicines management committee.
  • Support mental health nursing staff in managing minor injuries and wound care management.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  • Consult and coordinate with Multidisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Promote physical health and well being to the service users
  • Train staff to perform observation of vitals, read ECG, venepuncture
  • Provide health clinic sessions for the service users

You

An experienced RGN with a current Pin Number, you’ll have

  • Practise Nurse or RGN with experience of working in a GP surgery
  • The ability to maintain documentation, undertake audits & demonstrate integrity in your role
  • A good understanding of the latest nursing practices
  • A commitment to patient recovery in order to effectively monitor, manage & reduce risk
  • Compassion, resilience & a dedication to empower & support service user independence
  • The ability to deputise in a clinical lead role
  • An interest in leadership, research & assessment
