Job summary

Elysium Healthcare is hiring a Registered Nurse to lead and coordinate the physical health needs of service users at Dunnock View in Tendring. You will support the multidisciplinary team including GPs and SALTs and promote best practices in care plans.

Focus on implementing physical health plans, supervising staff, and educating on NG feeding and infection control. A full NMC registration and post-registration experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Hold a full and valid NMC registration.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years post-registration experience.
  • Experience in NG feeding and phlebotomy.
  • Experience of training others.
  • An understanding of eating disorders and mental health.
  • Experience of working with young people is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate physical healthcare plans and treatments for patients to maintain their optimum physical well-being.
  • Lead and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team on the ward.
  • Ensure ECGs and prescribed tests are carried out and recorded in Care notes.
  • Educate staff on naso-gastric tube feeding and update care plans accordingly.
  • Attend weekly ICR meetings to develop physical healthcare plans.
  • Chair the hospital's healthy living group and promote physical well-being topics.
  • Act as lead for infection control with staff and ensure best practices.
  • Facilitate educational workshops on physical care and best practice treatments.
  • Support immunisation within the hospital and ensure timely delivery.
  • Offer health promotion across conditions for staff and families.

As a qualified Physical Health Nurse with experience, you will lead and coordinate all aspects of the physical health needs of service users, while supporting your colleagues and promoting good teamwork with the multidisciplinary team, such as GPs and SALTs.

Location

Where you will be working: Tendring, Clacton-on-Sea, CO16 0BX. Dunnock View is a 42-bed service, providing treatment for men and women who may have suffered trauma and are affected by Mental Health disorders. A trauma-informed care model focuses on length of stay to ensure individuals move quickly and safely from the service to the most appropriate and least restrictive environment. Service users could be suffering from Acute mental illness, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Personality Disorder, Dual diagnosis, Self-harm, Substance misuse issues.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate physical healthcare plans and treatments for patients to maintain their optimum level of physical well-being.
  • Facilitate/support staff to ensure routine and ad hoc tests (e.g., blood screening for Clozapine/Lithium) are carried out as prescribed and results recorded appropriately within Care notes.
  • Facilitate/support routine testing for long-term conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes) as prescribed and ensure results are recorded in Care notes and in line with latest national guidance.
  • Lead the development and review of all physical health care plans to ensure patients have clear interventions that are being met.
  • Support the clinical team on the ward and cover staff when required.
  • Ensure all patients have ECGs as prescribed by the Consultant and evidence is documented in Care notes.
  • Act as the lead for educating staff in relation to the use of Naso-gastric tube feeding, ensuring adherence to prescriptions from the dietitian and updating care plans accordingly.
  • Attend weekly ICR meetings to contribute to the development and review of physical healthcare plans.
  • Chair the hospital’s healthy living group, promoting physical well-being topics on a monthly basis (e.g., obesity, smoking cessation, exercise).
  • Be the named lead for infection control within the hospital, providing professional advice, education, and support to staff in all clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Undertake clinical audits and support with emergency drills.
  • Facilitate educational workshops/teaching sessions on aspects of physical care and best practice treatments.
  • Support immunisation within the hospital (e.g., flu vaccine, routine childhood vaccinations), ensuring this is done in a timely manner.
  • Offer healthcare and health promotion across a range of conditions for staff.
  • Work alongside families and professionals to develop a positive approach to healthy living.
