Job summary

Finchetto is seeking a Photonics Characterization Engineer to advance cleanroom nanofabrication processes for integrated photonics on a Thin Film Lithium Niobate platform. The role involves developing testbeds, executing device characterization, and collaborating with process engineers to drive fabrication improvements.

The position is based at Finchetto’s Cardiff branch at the Institute for Compound Semiconductors, offering access to state-of-the-art testing equipment and potential cleanroom

Qualifications

  • Proven lab experience and ability to work in a research environment.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation of experimental results.
  • Hands-on optical testing experience.
  • Experience aligning optical fibers for fiber-to-chip characterization.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Background in photonics platforms (Silicon, III-V, or TFLN).

Responsibilities

  • Develop testbeds for characterizing optical waveguides in the C-band using fiber arrays on TFLN chips.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to define test structures for fabrication and characterization.
  • Assist with TFLN wafer characterization and test nanostructure evaluation.
  • Support setup and operation of equipment to characterize and monitor photonic structures.
  • Characterize nonlinear properties of PPLN waveguides and related devices.
  • Adhere to lab safety, cleanroom protocols, and contamination controls.
