Job summary

Salience Labs is seeking a Photonic Layout Engineer to join the Photonics team in the UK on a hybrid basis. You will develop physical layouts for integrated photonic components, translate device requirements into fabrication-ready layouts and perform design verification, including DRC and LVS.

You will collaborate with design, testing and wider engineering teams, improve layout workflows, and use Python with EDA tools to ensure robust, repeatable designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Photonics, Electrical or Optical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience in integrated photonics or photonic IC layout and verification.
• Experience creating physical IC or photonic layouts with Python or layout tools.
• Strong programming ability, especially Python.
• Understanding of photonics or semiconductor IC industry.
• Knowledge of DRC and LVS verification.
• Collaborative and detail‑oriented approach.

Responsibilities

• Develop physical layouts for integrated photonic components and larger designs.
• Translate device and circuit requirements into fabrication-ready layouts.
• Perform design verification, including DRC and LVS.
• Support designs through full layout and verification processes.
• Develop and improve software workflows for photonic layout and design automation.
• Use Python and layout tools to create, manipulate and verify layouts.
