NHS Ayrshire & Arran is seeking a Phlebotomist to join University Hospital Crosshouse on a permanent basis. You will perform venipuncture for blood samples and work within wards and clinics, following standard procedures and ensuring patient comfort.
The role requires SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in a healthcare subject, basic IT skills, and a UK driving licence. Training is provided; cross-site working is expected.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
The successful candidates will obtain blood samples from patients by venepuncture within wards and outpatient clinics within NHS Ayrshire & Arran whilst adhering to standard operating procedures. This involves positive identification of the patient and accessing electronic requests using TrakCare. A caring and empathetic approach is required to calm and reassure patients regarding the procedure. The successful candidate will work autonomously after a period of training but will be part of a bigger team.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job: Applicants should be qualified to SVQ/NVQ level 3 in a healthcare related subject and preferably have experience of Phlebotomy in a hospital setting, however full training will be provided in all aspects of the job. A basic understanding of I.T. is required and previous experience of Trakcare and PMS would be an advantage. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as having the ability to set patients at ease. The successful candidates will work as part of a team in a multidisciplinary setting, however once trained will be expected to work without direct supervision.
All training will take place in-house Mon - Fri 7.30 -11.30am. There is no set timescale for this, depending on experience can take approximately 3 months to become fully trained.
