Job summary

IPP Analytics Limited, partnered with SYNLAB Pay Band 2, is recruiting phlebotomists to deliver a safe, patient-focused venepuncture service at Broomfield Hospital and associated sites. The role welcomes experienced phlebotomists and those new to the field, with structured training and competency assessments.

New starters receive training at Southend Victoria Plaza and progress into a wider multi-site phlebotomy service, with weekend/bank holiday rotas and ongoing development opportunities.

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs including English
• Venepuncture qualification
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Undertake venepuncture safely and competently in accordance with agreed procedures and standards.
• Ensure patients are correctly identified before undertaking venepuncture.
• Ensure blood samples are collected, labelled, handled and dispatched correctly in accordance with laboratory requirements.
• Provide compassionate, professional and patient-focused care, maintaining dignity and professionalism.
• Reassure and support patients who may be anxious or have additional or specific needs.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, including manual and electronic systems.
• Comply with infection prevention and control, PPE, health and safety and patient safety requirements.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider phlebotomy and multidisciplinary team across hospital wards, outpatient clinics and community settings.

We are expanding our established phlebotomy service and are looking for skilled, compassionate and motivated Phlebotomists to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a service committed to providing safe, efficient and patient-focused blood collection across our hospital and supporting services.

We welcome applications from experienced phlebotomists who can demonstrate excellent venepuncture skills, as well as individuals who are new to phlebotomy and have the right attitude, communication skills and commitment to develop.

For those new to the profession, we provide a structured training and competency programme to give you the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to become a competent practitioner. Experienced phlebotomists will undertake an appropriate induction and competency assessment to ensure familiarity with our systems, processes and standards.

New starters who require phlebotomy training will initially undertake a structured training and competency programme at Southend Victoria Plaza, supported by experienced colleagues. Once the required competencies have been achieved, you will work as part of our wider multi-site phlebotomy service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing a safe, efficient, professional and patient-focused phlebotomy service.You will work with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and with differing needs, ensuring that each patient is treated with compassion, dignity and respect.

The role requires the post holder to work effectively within a busy clinical environment, both independently and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will be expected to maintain high standards of infection prevention, patient safety, confidentiality and professional practice at all times.You will be required to follow agreed procedures and laboratory requirements relating to patient identification, venepuncture, sample collection, labelling, handling and documentation.

You will also be expected to contribute positively to the team and support the continued development and improvement of the phlebotomy service

• Recognise difficult or challenging venepuncture and respond appropriately.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, including manual and electronic systems.
• Comply with relevant organisational policies, procedures and standards, including infection prevention and control, PPE, health and safety and patient safety requirements.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider phlebotomy and multidisciplinary team across hospital wards, outpatient clinics and community settings.
• Remain reliable, organised and able to work effectively within a busy clinical environment, managing time to best advantage and prioritising work.
• Work sensitively and professionally with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and with differing needs.
• Participate in weekend and bank holiday rotas as part of a flexible shift pattern.
• Participate in relevant induction, mandatory training, competency assessments and ongoing development, including First Aid, manual handling and phlebotomy updates.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, patient satisfaction initiatives and the ongoing development of the phlebotomy service.
• Demonstrate a positive and adaptable approach to changes and developments within the service.

Person specification

Qualifications

• 5 GCSE ‘o’ levels or equivalent which must include English.
• Previous Venepuncture Qualification
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Experience

• Ability to follow procedures accurately and maintain attention to detail
• Able to work as part of a team, be professional at all times and be responsible for their your own workload with good maintaining speed and accuracy.

Skills

• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (for multi-site work)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to complete formal phlebotomy and First Aid training
