PhD projects are available across the School’s three strategic research priority areas: Chemistry for Energy, Environment and Sustainability, Chemistry for Health and Society, and Chemistry for the Quantum and Digital Future. Researchers benefit from internationally recognised expertise, state‑of‑the‑art facilities, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, and comprehensive training that prepares graduates for careers in academia, industry, and beyond.
These PhD roles will begin in the 2027/2028 academic year. When applying, candidates should indicate the broad area of chemistry they wish to work in and whether they have identified a potential supervisor.
Applicants should hold a first‑class Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline. Candidates with a strong 2:1 degree may also be considered, as well as applicants with equivalent overseas qualifications.
This PhD is eligible for EPSRC Doctoral Landscape Award funding. Once a suitable PhD candidate is identified, they will be put forward for consideration for funding at a Faculty of Science‑level. Please note that funding is not guaranteed and is subject to a competitive review. Funding outcomes will be communicated in March 2027.
The award covers Home fees and provides an annual stipend (£21,805 for 26/27). International candidates may apply and, if successful, would receive a University of Nottingham Fee Difference scholarship to cover the difference between Home and International fee rates.
