Job summary

Helsing is seeking a PhD research intern in 3D computer vision to tackle open research problems in spatial perception and localisation. You will join our Spatial Intelligence Team, building systems for scene matching, geo-registration, SLAM, VIO, and 3D reconstruction, and explore how state-of-the-art methods can be deployed in real-world data conditions.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD in computer vision, machine learning, robotics, or a closely related field.
• Experience in localisation, scene matching, SLAM, visual odometry, or 3D reconstruction.
• Proficient in Python and PyTorch.
• Experience with Rust or C++.
• Ability to work independently and turn research ideas into code.

Responsibilities

• Survey and critically assess state-of-the-art research in geometric computer vision, feature matching, place recognition, and SLAM/VIO.
• Conceptualise how emerging techniques could apply to localisation and reconstruction pipelines, discussing trade-offs with the team.
• Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of algorithmic approaches for mission-critical use cases.
• Prototype and benchmark promising concepts against real-world operational data and constraints.
• Summarise findings in clear, concise reports and present them to the team.
