Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is recruiting a Pharmacy Technician to join the aseptic services team at Royal Hospital for Children. You will contribute to aseptic dispensing of high-risk medicines for neonatal, paediatric and adult patients, ensuring GMP and MHRA standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a controlled environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform aseptic dispensing of high-risk injectable medicines (e.g., chemotherapy, TPN, CIVAS).
  • Complete final accuracy checks on dispensed oral medicines.
  • Supervise and train Pharmacy Support Workers and pre-registration staff.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards and documentation in line with SOPs.
  • Participate in environmental monitoring and stock control.

The Role

We are recruiting qualified Pharmacy Technicians to join our aseptic services team at our major specialist centres within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

  • Royal Hospital for Children: Contribute to aseptic dispensing of parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, clinical trial medicines and complex IV antibiotics for neonatal, paediatric and adult patients.

The role is critical to patient safety and service delivery, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and MHRA standards.

PVG Scheme membership (Disclosure Scotland) is required for roles involving regulated work with vulnerable groups.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Location based: Royal Hospital for Children
  • Full‑time position
  • Shift pattern for this post is 36 hours per week
Key Responsibilities

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a controlled environment.
  • Strong communication and team-working skills.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in an aseptic unit (full training will be provided).
