Job summary

Glan Clwyd Hospital's Pharmacy Clinical Trials team is recruiting a Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician to contribute to high-quality, patient-focused services across North Wales. You will collaborate with pharmacists, pharmacy staff, and research teams to support trials in oncology and haematology.

The role covers dispensing and checking trial prescriptions, maintaining trial documentation, stock control, temperature monitoring, and regulatory compliance. Weekend/public holiday rota applies.

Qualifications

  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Qualification in pharmaceutical sciences (BTEC/NVQ) with GPhC registration.
  • Maintain Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician/Medicines Management qualification.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy or dispensary.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day delivery of the clinical trials pharmacy service.
  • Dispense and check clinical trial prescriptions.
  • Maintain records and handle investigational medicinal products per GCP.
  • Assist with ordering, stock control, temperature monitoring, and trial documentation.

Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the new Pharmacy Clinical Trials team at Glan Clwyd Hospital as a Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician. Working within a supportive and forward-thinking team, you will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused service supporting innovative research across North Wales.

The role will involve working closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and research teams, supporting clinical trials across a range of specialties including oncology and haematology. This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills in clinical trials and build experience within a growing and evolving service.

Main duties of the job

You will support the day-to-day delivery of the clinical trials pharmacy service, including dispensing and checking clinical trial prescriptions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the safe storage and handling of investigational medicinal products in line with Good Clinical Practice and departmental procedures. You will assist with ordering, stock control, temperature monitoring, and maintenance of trial documentation, ensuring all records meet regulatory requirements.

The role requires strong attention to detail, good organisational skills, and the ability to manage workload in a busy environment. You will work both independently and as part of a team, communicating effectively with pharmacy, clinical, and research staff. You will also contribute to training, service improvement, and audit activities, with support to develop your skills and knowledge within this specialist area.

Please note that this post includes participation in a weekend and public holiday rota to support the wider Pharmacy service.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Registered pharmacy professional with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • BTEC in pharmaceutical sciences
  • NVQ Level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences with recognised underpinning knowledge course, or equivalent, recognised by the General Pharmaceutical Council for registration as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Maintain Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician and/or Medicines Management qualification
  • Experience of working within a pharmacy – including a variety of different aspects e.g. dispensary, ward top ups, aseptics and stores.
  • Adhere to legislation-Good Clinical Practice (GCP) on a day to day basis.
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited accuracy checking technician in primary care or willing to undertake
