Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to be one of the first to join our team at HMP Millsike, a Category C men's prison, located in Full Sutton near York.

HMP Millsike is a newly built prison with an operational capacity of 1500 places. As part of the Government's drive to cut reoffending, prisoners spend their sentences learning the skills they need to find work on release.

This role is to be part of a new healthcare team from the inception of a brand new prison site. There is lots of opportunity for development within this role, including ACT training upon successful completion of probation.

Hours 37.5 hours a week, working 3 long days in week 1 and 2 long days plus weekend in week 2. This will run on a 10 week rolling rota. Weekday hours are 6.45 - 19.15 (11.5 hrs) and weekend hours are 8.00-17.45 (8.75 hrs).

Salary This position is full time and you’ll receive an annual salary up to £40,211 per annum - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacy Technician, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Assist with the provision and delivery of an integrated, safe, legal, high-quality prison pharmaceutical service, taking into consideration, at all times, the need to maintain a high level of security.
  • Hold direct patient contact, which will be part of a comprehensive healthcare package, based on the prison services needs
  • Share information relating to pharmaceutical products, medicines management, drug regimes, medicines
  • Make a real difference by working as a key member of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals

Job responsibilities

As a GPHC registered pharmacy technician with Practice Plus Group you will become an integral member of the pharmacy team and a valued member of the multidisciplinary clinical healthcare team. You will:

  • Provide outstanding, patient-centred care to our patients, seeking out, listening to and acting on their feedback so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
  • Focus on providing a safe and secure medicines management service, ensuring patient medical records are maintained to the agreed standard at all times and ensuring standard operating procedures are followed to a high and orderly standard.
  • Deliver non-judgmental care within the scope of professional standards, including timely administration of medicines and contributing to cost-effective prescribing as defined through our health in justice medicines policy.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links within our teams, partners and stakeholders, providing a service that people can trust and feel safe within.
  • Promote best practice, evidence-based care and continuous quality improvement, embedding a culture of shared learning; communicate complex or sensitive information with empathy.
  • Share information relating to pharmaceutical products, medicines optimisation, drug regimes, medicines legislation and general health education so that the multidisciplinary healthcare team is appropriately informed.
