Job summary

NHSGGC in Glasgow area is seeking a Pharmacy Support Worker to join the Clinical Trials Pharmacy team at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. You will support the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients participating in clinical trials.

You will undertake an SVQ in Pharmacy Services Group Award at SCQF Level 6 and complete extensive on‑the‑job training to develop core skills for the Pharmacy Support Worker role.

Qualifications

  • Proficient level of general education at National 5/Standard Grade level or above – essential.
  • Previous experience in healthcare, pharmacy or a customer-facing role – essential.
  • Proficient IT skills, including typing.
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office packages, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience using email systems, including Outlook.
  • Experience using stock control systems – desirable.
  • Ability to plan and organise workload to meet the demanding needs of the service.
  • Willingness to undertake the SVQ in Pharmacy Services Group Award at SCQF Level 6.
  • Willingness to undertake and successfully complete the comprehensive on-the-job training programme.

Responsibilities

Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Pharmacy Support Worker to join the friendly and supportive Clinical Trials Pharmacy team at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. The Clinical Trials Pharmacy team hosts and delivers approximately 150 clinical trials involving investigational medicinal products (IMPs), including oral medicines and aseptically prepared products. As a Phase 1 Experimental Cancer Medicines Centre, the service delivers immunotherapy, cellular and gene therapy, and chemotherapy clinical trials.

You will be an integral member of the Clinical Trials Pharmacy team, working within the Clinical Trials Dispensary in the main pharmacy department and supporting the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • This is a permanent contract working 36 hours per week.
  • The post is based within the Clinical Trials Dispensary at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.
  • The working pattern is Monday 8:45am–4:30pm, Tuesday to Thursday 8:45am–5:00pm, and Friday 8:45am–4:00pm.
Key Responsibilities

You will support the delivery of Clinical Trials Pharmacy services, ensuring the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients participating in clinical trials. You will work as part of the Clinical Trials Pharmacy team and contribute to the efficient operation of the Clinical Trials Dispensary.

As part of your development, you will undertake an SVQ in Pharmacy Services Group Award at SCQF Level 6, in line with General Pharmaceutical Council requirements for the education and training of pharmacy support staff.

You will also complete a comprehensive on-the-job training programme to develop the knowledge and skills required to become fully proficient in the Pharmacy Support Worker role.
