Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Glasgow is seeking a self-motivated Pharmacy Support Worker to join their Mental Health Pharmacy Team. The role involves ensuring the safe supply of medicines, dispensing for patients, and providing support to nursing staff. An SVQ Level 2 Pharmacy qualification or relevant experience is desirable. Full training will be given to successful candidates. Working hours are predominantly Monday to Friday with optional weekend work.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The post holder will be based at Stobhill Hospital but will also be required to work at other Mental Health sites on occasions, working 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 8.30am – 4pm. You will be expected to participate in weekend working and public holiday rota where applicable.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the friendly Mental Health Pharmacy Team at Stobhill Hospital.

As an integral member of the team you will ensure the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients. Following standard operating procedures you will label and dispense medicines for inpatients and outpatients. The post holder should be comfortable in a patient facing role in a ward based environment where they will co-ordinate ward stock medicine top-up services.

You will support nursing staff with good housekeeping of medicines. You will participate in processes that ensure the safe and timely supply of high risk medication to patients. You must have the ability to communicate effectively using clear written and spoken English.

An SVQ Level 2 Pharmacy qualification and / or experience working in a pharmacy environment is desirable but full training will be given.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an SVQ in Pharmacy Services Group Award (at SVQ level6) as per GPhC requirements. Successful candidates will also complete a comprehensive on the job training programme which lasts on average 18 months to become fully proficient in the Pharmacy Support Worker role.
