Job summary

A leading recruitment agency in the UK is seeking a Pharmacy Support Worker to assist in providing pharmaceutical services in a public sector environment. Responsibilities include dispensing prescribed items, maintaining stock levels, and completing relevant certifications. Job description

Job Title Pharmacy Worker (Generic)

MPA are currently recruiting a Pharmacy Support Worker on behalf of our client, who is one of the leading authorities of regulating in the public sector.

The successful applicant will join the team providing the pharmaceutical service for our client. The person appointed will be involved in the work of the various sections providing the pharmaceutical service and will work under the supervision of the section managers.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practise for Pharmacy Support Staff and complete any additional training/ competency assessment relevant to the role.

Pay Rate

£12.21 PH

General Responsibilities:
  • Complete a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practise for Pharmacy Receipt, storage and issue of pharmaceutical products including maintenance of records.
  • Undertake the dispensing, labelling and packaging of prescribed items and completion of dispensary records.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels in a neat, clean, safe and orderly manner.
  • Participate in the treatment room top-up service.
  • Processing returns from treatment rooms and other prison establishments.
  • Assist with the preparation of pharmaceutical products.
  • Assist in the storage and rotation of stock and checking of expiry dates
  • Cleaning of glassware and equipment.
  • Assist with waste management as per Trust waste disposal policy.
  • Assist with the development of and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for the department.
  • Communicate with internal and external users to give advice on the availability of pharmaceutical products.
  • Contact external suppliers to resolve incorrect deliveries of pharmaceutical supplies and arranging replacement stock or credits as required.
  • Provision of a prescription portering service to the treatment rooms.
  • Maintain any records used in the dispensary.
  • Assist with the receipt, storage and issue of pharmaceutical products and related clerical duties.
  • Undertake the assembly, labelling and packaging of prescribed items and completion of dispensing records.
  • Load pharmacy robot.
  • Be responsible for computer input and maintaining appropriate stock levels in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
  • Be responsible for the provision of ward top-ups directly at ward level and within the pharmacy department in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Participate in the ordering of Intravenous fluids for wards and departments.
  • Participate in preparation of Emergency boxes and kits.
  • Assist in dispensary receptionist duties to include receiving work, logging details of work on the prescription tracking system and its progress through the dispensary and contacting wards and departments. Assist in the, issuing of prescribed items.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of new staff working in the pharmacy e.g. pharmacy assistants, technicians, pre-registration pharmacists, trainee technicians etc.
  • Assist in the accurate and safe disposal of redundant medicines as appropriate.
  • Participate in our clients Staff Development Review including the annual development of a Personal Contributions/ Objectives Plan and Personal Development Plan.
  • Be responsible for telephone duties including recording of messages and redirecting incoming calls on telephone system.
  • Conduct oneself in an appropriate manner and maintain required standards of appearance and dress.
  • Maintain records and filing.
Essential Criteria:

A minimum of 4 GCSE's grade C/4 or above, including Maths, English and Science

or equivalent academic qualification (e.g. BTEC First Diploma in Science or Essential Skills Level 2 Maths and English).

Willing to undertake a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Principles and Practise for Pharmacy Support Staff.

Applicants must have knowledge of Microsoft packages including word and excel.

Experience of working within hospital or community pharmaceutical Team

OR

Experience of Working in stock management such as Stores/Warehouse/Distribution Centre

Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.

This criterion will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.

Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

Previous experience working in a secure environment

Desirable Criteria:

The successful applicant will be required to complete a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (3 mandatory units and 3 units selected by the Trust that are relevant to your job role) and any additional NVQ2 Pharmacy Services modules relevant to the job role within 24 months of appointment
