Job summary

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant at NHS Band 3 to join our dedicated team at Queen Alexandra Hospital. This permanent, full-time role offers 37.5 hours per week, with a competitive salary and NHS benefits.

You will be at the heart of patient care, safely preparing and supplying medicines and supporting ward and departmental pharmacy services. We value teamwork, accuracy, and a proactive approach to training.

Qualifications

Experience of team work.
Experience of Pharmacy or another customer focused, caring field.
Working with formal procedures.
Compiling complex orders.
Experience of stock control/handling.
Recent experience of hospital pharmacy.
Proactive attitude to ongoing training and assessment.

Responsibilities

Accurately label and dispense medicines from prescriptions.
Receive and check prescriptions and support reception.
Help manage stock: order, receive, rotate and monitor expiry dates.
Prepare pre-packed items and emergency drug boxes; handle controlled medicines.
Coordinate supply between units and with internal teams (oncology/manufacturing).
Contribute to quality checks and maintain tidy, efficient areas.
Support inpatient, oncology dispensaries and medicines management teams.
