Job summary

East Lancashire Teaching Hospital’s inpatient pharmacy seeks a Pharmacy Receptionist to support medication delivery, customer service and the pharmacy team.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and process hospital prescriptions according to dispensary procedures and the prescription tracker.
  • Coordinate ward medicine orders, liaising with Senior Pharmacy Technicians, Assistants and department staff; ensure timely distribution to wards.
  • Maintain dispensing records, ‘to‑follow’ logs, stock rotation, and manage returned pharmaceutical waste following SOPs.
  • Answer telephone calls, redirect queries and provide a friendly customer‑friendly approach.
  • Support the dispensary team with clerical duties, filing, and the preparation of repeat prescriptions for outpatient nursing.
  • Collaborate with portering, pharmacy clinical governance and medicines risk management agendas.
  • Adhere to SOPs, PPE guidance, hygiene standards and care of cleaning duties between shifts.
Qualifications
  • Previous pharmacy or retail reception experience preferred.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexibly and support the pharmacy team during core and weekend rota hours.
Hours and Employment

Core hours 08:00‑19:00; standard shift 09:00‑17:30 with 1‑in‑8 rota for weekends or overtime; flexible working arrangements offered.
