Job description
Pharmacy Manager – Wessex Hospital

Permanent, Full Time. Salary up to £66,000 per annum depending on experience. 37.5 hours per week.

Main Duties
  • Provide leadership and advice on medicines management to ensure processes across all clinical departments are safe, cost‑effective, legal and supported by up‑to‑date policies, procedures and guidelines, including chairing the quarterly Medicines Management Forum.
  • Lead, motivate and manage the pharmacy team, delivering excellent leadership and fostering teamwork.
  • Serve as Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, optimising the use of antimicrobials to minimise hospital‑acquired infections through adherence to policy and regular audit in partnership with the IP nurse team.
  • Ensure the pharmacy team undertakes daily ward rounds, reconciling medication for new inpatients, counselling patients, managing PODs, checking for allergies, adverse drug reactions and contraindications, and confirming medicines are clinically appropriate.
  • Assist the team in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care, including dispensing, accuracy and clinical checking of TTOs and providing discharge counselling.
  • Lead on the implementation of medication safety alerts and drug recalls, coordinating with the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Implement and monitor Department of Health guidance on controlled drugs use and ensure the controlled drug audit is completed quarterly.
  • Manage errors, complaints and incidents in line with Nuffield Health guidelines, reporting via the RADAR system and reviewing relevant reports.
  • Support development of other healthcare professionals and deliver medicines‑focused training upon request.
Key Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Experience working in a clinical pharmacy setting.
  • Leadership/managerial experience in a pharmacy environment.
  • Ability to share evidence‑based practices with colleagues to enhance service and standards.
  • Strong decision‑making and initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills.
