Overview
As a Pharmacy Assistant you will work as part of a dedicated, friendly team, supporting the supply of medicines across the hospital. Your role will include restocking ward drug cabinets using the Omnicell automated system, maintaining pharmacy hardware, and ensuring accurate and timely medication delivery.
Responsibilities
- Supply stocked medicines to Omnicell cabinets, including barcoding and stock adjustments.
- Complete manual top‑ups for items stored outside of Omnicell.
- Participate in the Omnicell cycle count rota and maintain effective inventory management.
- Assist with safe receipt, storage and supply of pharmaceutical items in line with departmental procedures and Good Distribution Practice.
- Order and maintain stock for wards, theatre and clinic areas against agreed stock lists.
- Use EPIC and the pharmacy computer system to issue stock, register deliveries, and manage returns.
- Collect and deliver pharmaceuticals, IV and irrigation fluids to ward/department/theatre areas, obtaining staff signatures.
- Count daily inventory, check expiry dates, and remove expired or damaged stock.
- Maintain consumables and clean shelves, equipment, and the bulk fluid store.
- Perform robot maintenance and ensure medicines are processed correctly in and out of the robot.
- Respond to telephone enquiries according to hospital guidelines.
- Assemble pharmaceuticals for Retrieval packs following SOPs and health and safety requirements.
- Complete any other duties within the competency of a pharmacy assistant, with appropriate training.
Training & Development
- Complete a GPhC accredited Level 2 Medicines Stock Assistant course (or equivalent).
- Undertake the full CQF Pharmacy Services Level 2 with optional units relevant to practice area.
- Record CPD activities.
- Opportunities to progress into senior assistant or technician roles within the Trust.
